My Research
My research examines the psychological and societal processes that sustain racial inequality.
I investigate how people understand systemic racism and identify the downstream consequences of these beliefs for attitudes, accountability, and policy support.
A central contribution of my work is identifying a critical but overlooked dynamic: structural explanations for inequality, while informative, can sometimes reduce perceptions of individual responsibility. Building on this insight, I develop and test interventions that promote a more integrated understanding of structural and individual racism—approaches that increase accountability and motivation to address inequality.
I combine controlled experiments with large-scale field studies across diverse contexts, including healthcare organizations, police departments, and community groups. Through these partnerships, my work aims to both advance theory and inform real-world efforts to promote equity.
